Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) is required for the Ontario Secondary School Diploma. The program includes 10 two-hour classes covering Reading Comprehension and Writing components, practice materials spanning various genres, and a mock exam with feedback, designed to improve students’ scores and readiness for the actual test.

What is OSSLT?

The Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) measures whether or not students are meeting the minimum standard for literacy across all subjects up to the end of Grade 9. Successful completion of the literacy test is one of the requirements to earn an Ontario Secondary School Diploma. 

When is OSSLT?

All students across the province write this test on the same date. The test usually takes place in late March or early April each year.

Primary Focus

  • Emphasize understanding and analyzing various genres included in the test, such as newspaper articles, short stories, diagrams, and informative paragraphs.
  • This section focuses on enhancing writing skills for short responses and essays.

Key Features

  • Utilizes specialized booklets for Reading Comprehension and Writing that cover various materials and question types found in the tests.
  • Offers personalized coaching and instructor feedback to improve test-taking strategies and scores.
  • This program consists of 10 classes, each lasting 2 hours, dedicated to preparing students for both key components of the test.

  •  Improve short response and essay writing capabilities.
  • Strengthen abilities to interpret complex texts and diagrams.
  • Provide targeted feedback for strategy and technique improvement.

Mock Exam
(multiple-choice  and written responses)

The mock exam consists of select parts, including multiple-choice questions and written responses. Our instructors will give students suggestions for further improvement based on their mock exam performance.
