Parents often come to us and expressed their concerns about the EQAO assessments, what exactly is EQAO? What does the 4 letters term stand for?
Believe it or not. EQAO stands for "Education Quality and Accountability Office". It is an independent agency that creates and administers assessments to evaluate Ontario students' level in reading, writing and mathematics.
Students are tested in Grade 3, 6 and 9. All the assessments formed by EQAO must align with The Ontario Curriculum, and are used to evaluate students' ability.
Essentially, the main goal of the assessment is to improve school programming and classroom instruction. Unlike SAT in the United States, it is not a standardised exam conducted to assess students' suitability for further education or university admission.
